DRIVERS living in and passing through Apollo Bay will still be able to fill up their cars locally during the renovations of the town\u2019s only service station, after discussions between stakeholders settled on a solution.
\nThe Caltex service station will be closed for about three months as it is rebranded to an Ampol outlet.
\nHowever, as of June 17, petrol is being provided by HaloGo four days a week (from Thursday to Sunday) at at a pop-up site at McLaren Parade.
\nThere will also be at-home deliveries, and some flexibility in opening times and hours is expected at peak times such as school holidays.
\nLast week, Corangamite federal member Libby Coker welcomed the progress made in the discussions between Caltex and stakeholders including the Apollo Bay Chamber of Commerce and the Colac Otway Shire, and acknowledged the work of Polwarth MP Richard Riordan in earlier meetings.
\nShe said the outcome would allow for the service to benefit not only residents in and around the town, but also tourists who were expected to swell the region during the July school holidays.
\n\u201cThe outcome is not perfect, with many of us wanting a four- or five day-a-week service at a minimum. However, Caltex has certainly increased its offer. This has addressed some, but not all, of
\nthe concerns.
\n\u201cI would like to thank Caltex and the community for working with me to improve the proposal.
\n\u201cA major concern for me and many within the community was the previous proposal (of two weekdays and home delivery only) did not consider the potential hit to tourism the region could face due to reduced fuel availability.\u201d
\nAs well as signs due to be put up at the station by Caltex, Regional RoadsVictoria and the Colac Otway Shire council will also set up appropriate signage warning visitors coming into the region about the changes.
