THE signal is stronger for a community radio station in the south-west, with OCR FM switching on its new transmitter at Lorne.<\/p>\n
The Colac-based station, which broadcasts across the region, is run by volunteers and recently held their annual general meeting for the past year.<\/p>\n
The station airs content 24 hours a day with a full line-up of locally produced radio programs, plus community information and music.<\/p>\n
The push to increase the signal around Lorne originally started after the Christmas bushfires.<\/p>\n
OCR FM was assisting the local shires to spread community information, but many Lorne locals could only access the signal digitally from the station\u2019s website stream.<\/p>\n
As OCR FM already broadcast along the coast on 88.7FM, the project quickly developed. With assistance from the Community Broadcasting Foundation, several fundraisers and cooperation from the Lorne Country Club and Colac’s South Western IT, OCR FM have been able to purchase and install transmission equipment for the Lorne broadcast area.<\/p>\n
Station president Tyson Graham was excited about the new transmission into Lorne.<\/p>\n
“It’s been a very big project that has taken many months, and we’re very appreciative of the volunteers and businesses that have supported OCR FM to get the radio signal into Lorne,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe look forward to feedback from new listeners across the coast who now have access to new and alternative music, local news, community information, and the opportunity to contribute to community radio.\u201d<\/p>\n
