DAVID Morton has stepped down after 20 years as captain of the Aireys Inlet Fire Brigade.<\/p>\n
Mr Morton was set to retire earlier this year, but stayed on as the COVID-19 pandemic meant Aireys Inlet Country Fire Authority (CFA) were unable to meet to decide on a successor.<\/p>\n
Mr Morton said he had enjoyed seeing the brigade develop during his time in charge.<\/p>\n
“It’s been good to see the brigade grow not only with our new two trucks and two slip on units but also the growth in our tight-knit group of volunteers.”<\/p>\n
Adam Gilliver will now step into the role of acting captain having previously served as 3rd lieutenant, and praised Mr Morton for his leadership.<\/p>\n
“I have certainly got big shoes to fill as I step up to be acting captain, but I know I have the support of a very experienced team,” Mr Gilliver said.<\/p>\n
“While David is stepping down as captain, he will still continue to be active in the brigade and support the management team.”<\/p>\n
Aireys Inlet CFA training officer Andrew Wilson said the brigade had been fortunate to have Mr Morton as captain.<\/p>\n
“His knowledge of the local area, passion for the role CFA plays in all sorts of incidents and fostering the growth of new members are the things that stand out for me.”<\/p>\n
Mr Gilliver will occupy the role until restrictions allow group meetings to take place.<\/p>\n
Aireys Inlet Fire Brigade also plans to come together to celebrate Mr Morton’s achievement once health advice permits.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
