LIKE many other organisations, the Rotary Club of Torquay has been forced to learn how to do things differently this year as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
\nLast month, the club held a virtual function to celebrate the official change of office bearers.
\nAdhering to social distancing rules, Rotarians met in groups of seven for lunch in members’ homes with many other guests, including Surf Coast Shire mayor Rose Hodge connecting in on Zoom to join in the event.
\nThe outgoing president, Kelly Binyon, recapped the past year before handing over the reins of the club – along with the president’s collar, Club Charter and the Rotary International 2020-21 Theme Banner – to incoming president Jan Emmett.
\nThe club pre-recorded a video of the induction of the new board on the Torquay foreshore, which was played during the Zoom event.
\nThe video was fittingly recorded in front of the playground named in honour of Jan’s late husband Rob, who had also been president of the Rotary Club of Torquay<\/a> in 2001.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
