NEARLY 600 people have signed an online petition urging the Surf Coast Shire council to knock down its roadblocks between The Quay and Quay2 estates in Torquay North.
\nThe change.org petition, “Review and Immediately Reverse Decision to install Quay 2 Roadblocks<\/a>“, was created on Sunday.
\nAs of Wednesday night, at least 589 people had signed it.
\n“The signatories are extremely concerned this unreasonable intervention in the freedom of movement is a breach of the Road Management Regulations and Local Government Act which require immediate attention,” the petition states.
\nThe petition calls on the Surf Coast Shire council to immediately do three things:
\n* Review the traffic management plan for Quay and Quay2 before and\/or immediately after the next scheduled council meeting;
\n* Remove roadblocks and not consider reinstalling them until an updated traffic management assessment is completed along with the consideration of all other traffic safety measures to be implemented before roadblocks are reinstalled (for example, temporary speed bumps), and
\n* Initiate community consultation before proceeding with any further decisions to impose unreasonable restrictions on Quay2 residents, pursuant to the council’s own Community Engagement Policy and in accordance with the Local Government Act principles and objectives.
\nThe council set up barriers to close Glengarry, Inshore, Marine and Centreside drives to vehicle traffic at the junction of The Quay and Quay 2 estates on July 13.
\nThe council says the closures will temporarily re-create traffic conditions for residents in the original Quay development in place before the Quay 2 development started, and they will remain until the traffic lights at the new intersection of Surf Coast Highway, Coombes Road and Rosser Boulevard are completed in late 2021.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
