RETURNED and Services Leagues across the Surf Coast hosted Vietnam Veterans’ Day commemorations last week.<\/p>\n
Torquay RSL president retired Major Bob Tyler and Sapper John McCarthy observed social distancing protocols as they laid a wreath at council’s Vietnam memorial.<\/p>\n
Mr Tyler said it was still important to honour those who served.<\/p>\n
“We held a very small memorial service at the Vietnam Veterans’ memorial at the back of the Surf Coast Shire offices,” he said.<\/p>\n
“We also had the flags flying at Point Danger for the whole day, and put a couple of messages on Facebook to thank the guys for their service.”<\/p>\n
Anglesea RSL also made a statement thanking their veterans for their service.<\/p>\n
“The Anglesea RSL Sub-Branch would like to recognise all who served in Vietnam and remember their bravery, teamwork and endurance.<\/p>\n
“We honour those Veterans who lost their lives during battle, lost their lives since they returned and those who returned home wounded, ill or injured and reflect on the impact of service on our Veterans’ families.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
