THE Surf Coast Shire is close to completing work on the Jan Juc Creek Daylighting project, which will restore a 230-metre section of the creek.<\/p>\n
has been removed with more than 4,500 native trees, shrubs, grasses and sedges planted as part of a revegetation project, with 1,500 more to come during March.<\/p>\n
sections of underground drainage have been removed and decommissioned with stormwater now taking a more natural course.<\/p>\n
The remediation of the section of creek has to the ocean, while improving the appearance and biodiversity of the Jan Juc Creek Linear reserve.<\/p>\n
The $410,000 project, which involved the reshaping of the creek banks, has been funded with $370,000 from the state government.<\/p>\n
Shire mayor Rose Hodge said the project had improving local public space.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople in Jan Juc have been able to see the creek return in front of their eyes, which is fantastic.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe project is bringing back lots of great habitat areas for native species, while ensuring we the ocean which is really important.<\/p>\n
