{"id":42222,"date":"2020-09-17T01:00:56","date_gmt":"2020-09-16T15:00:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=42222"},"modified":"2020-09-15T14:03:43","modified_gmt":"2020-09-15T04:03:43","slug":"local-students-recognised-in-art-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/local-students-recognised-in-art-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"Local students recognised in art competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AIREYS Inlet Primary School students recently showed their artistic prowess in the 2020 Shorebirds Competition.<\/p>\n<p>Run by Australia\u2019s Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO), the competition invites students from Grades 3 to 6 from across Australia to submit public awareness posters with a drawing of a shorebird on it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/09\/OliverGr32_59841.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Aireys Inlet Primary School students have excelled in this year\u2019s competition. All the Grade 3 to 6 students took part in it, with 18 of their students\u2019 pictures making the first round of judging.<\/p>\n<p>Grade 3 student Oliver and Grade 6 students Mischa, Janahli, and Paige\u2019s drawings were highly commended by the competition\u2019s judges.<\/p>\n<p>Aireys Inlet Primary School Visual and Performing Arts teacher Karren Stoneham said they were proud of their students\u2019 efforts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s pretty huge for a little school like ours. They\u2019re talented students we have.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As part of the Shorebirds Competition students started off by learning about the shorebirds native to their region.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ms Stoneham said the program subsequently gave students an opportunity to show their understanding of the native wildlife as well as their artistic skills.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have shorebirds all around our beaches and wetlands here, some of which are endan<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">gered,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a very educational program to start off with, and it was about trying to get the signs out and letting giving a voice to these shorebirds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 alignleft\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/09\/MischaGr62_96253.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/09\/PaigeGr62_86323.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AIREYS Inlet Primary School students recently showed their artistic prowess in the 2020 Shorebirds Competition.
