TORQUAY College students will return to improved facilities for term 4 following the completion of the $1.9 million upgrade.<\/p>\n
Funded by the state government, the works included upgrading some of the school’s existing portables with the installation of internal flexible partitions and replacing some of the windows with sliding doors. Outdoor learning areas were also created, including a small amphitheatre, an undercover walkway and DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) compliant ramps. A small amount of asbestos also had to be removed.<\/p>\n
Torquay College principal Jessica Kelly said the upgrades would provide a much-improved learning environment for students.<\/p>\n
“The refurbished buildings really elevate the quality of what we can provide,” Ms Kelly said.<\/p>\n
“The school has been looking forward to it for a number of years, so to see it come together is really exciting for staff and students.<\/p>\n
“It’s just stunning, the architectural features are absolutely remarkable, but I also love the balance between inside and out, so it’s also really bringing learning outside as well as making the most of inside spaces.”<\/p>\n
Orion Builders Ltd completed the project ahead of schedule.<\/p>\n
State Labor Member for South Barwon Darren Cheeseman was at the sod turn in December 2019 and said he was pleased to see the project complete.<\/p>\n
