{"id":42594,"date":"2020-09-24T00:06:32","date_gmt":"2020-09-23T14:06:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=42594"},"modified":"2020-09-24T12:49:52","modified_gmt":"2020-09-24T02:49:52","slug":"nominations-close-shire-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/nominations-close-shire-election\/","title":{"rendered":"Nominations close for Surf Coast Shire council election"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NOMINATIONS have closed for the Surf Coast Shire council elections, and a large field of candidates have thrown their hat in the ring.<br \/>\nCandidates had until noon on Tuesday this week to formally declare their intentions to run with the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC).<br \/>\nAccording to the VEC website, there are five candidates for the two seats in Anglesea Ward, in ballot paper order:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Libby Stapleton<\/li>\n<li>Tony Revell<\/li>\n<li>Raylene Fordham<\/li>\n<li>Mike Bodsworth<\/li>\n<li>Liz Wood.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Garry Allen will be elected unopposed in Lorne Ward to replace the departing Clive Goldsworthy, as he was the only candidate to nominate for the seat.<\/p>\n<p>In Torquay Ward, 10 candidates will contest the four seats. They are, in ballot paper order:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maurice Cole<\/li>\n<li>Amber Potter<\/li>\n<li>Kate Gazzard<\/li>\n<li>Martin Duke<\/li>\n<li>Paul Barker<\/li>\n<li>Rose Hodge<\/li>\n<li>Rob Bullen<\/li>\n<li>Monica Winston<\/li>\n<li>Liz Pattison<\/li>\n<li>David Bell.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Voters also have a lot to choose from Winchelsea Ward, which has five candidates in the chase for its two seats. In ballot paper order, they are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Kirsty Metcalf<\/li>\n<li>Heather Wellington<\/li>\n<li>Adrian Schonfelder<\/li>\n<li>James McIntyre<\/li>\n<li>Tony Phelps.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more information on the council election, head to <a href=\"http:\/\/vec.vic.gov.au\/voting\/2020-local-council-election\/elections\/surf-coast-shire-council\">vec.vic.gov.au\/voting\/2020-local-council-election\/elections\/surf-coast-shire-council<\/a>.<br \/>\nAlmost half of the four million-plus voters on the Victorian state electoral roll have not provided an email or mobile number with their enrolment details. Contact details are not compulsory,<br \/>\nbut without them voters are unable to take advantage of the Victorian Electoral VEC\u2019s VoterAlert service.<br \/>\nElectoral Commissioner Warwick Gately encouraged all eligible Victorians to sign up for Voter Alert \u2013 a free SMS and email reminder service.<br \/>\n\u201cLocal council elections will be held by post in Victoria in October and we want to make sure everyone knows they\u2019re happening and is prepared to vote,\u201d he said.<br \/>\n\u201cVoters will be notified when to expect a ballot pack in the mail and when to return their vote.\u201d<br \/>\nVoters can opt in to the service via the VEC\u2019s website at <a href=\"http:\/\/vec.vic.gov.au\">vec.vic.gov.au<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NOMINATIONS have closed for the Surf Coast Shire council elections, and a large field of candidates have thrown their hat in the ring.
