SURF Coast Secondary College is inviting the community to see some of the best works produced by its VCE students in a one-night exhibition.<\/p>\n
Artwave 2017 will be a showcase of the arts, design, print and film productions of the college\u2019s Media students, models from Product Design along with a series of live performances by Music and Drama students.<\/p>\n
The arts are central to life at Surf Coast Secondary College. Students work with visiting artists, regularly attend exhibitions in Melbourne and have the opportunity to work with high-quality materials. This resulted in an exceptional 2016 school year, with six students showcased in the 2017 Top Arts, Top Design and Top Acts exhibitions.<\/p>\n
Visitors to the Artwave exhibition will be impressed with the depth of thought and discussion around issues.<\/p>\n
Students have responded with great sensitivity and creativity to questions around the development of Torquay, environmental change, beauty and death, the loss of innocence, contemporary communications and the difficulty of exile.<\/p>\n
A number of works this year illustrate the strong community connections that students have developed throughout the year. Projects include the logo design for the new Torquay Coast Primary School, Torquay Tennis Club and Torquay Fire Brigade.<\/p>\n
The Art Academy students developed a series of designs set to transform the local environment as part of the Traffic Signal Box Art Project.<\/p>\n
This year, the exhibition will be opened by Clifton Daniell, creative director at the design studio Fluid.<\/p>\n
The college has developed a strong partnership with the studio through the establishment of the Fluid Award, which provides an invaluable mentoring session for a selected Year 11 Design student.<\/p>\n
The recipient of the 2016 award, Jazmine Smith, enjoyed the opportunity to visit the studio and discuss her concepts for her Year 12 folio.<\/p>\n
Artist and RMIT lecturer Julie Shiels will also present the 2017 Conceptual Art prize, which recognises students who extend their thinking and research skills to explore the big ideas that underpin their art-making practice.<\/p>\n
Artwave 2017 will be held at Surf Coast Secondary College, 75 White Street, Torquay, on November 30 from 6.30pm. Entry is free.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
