{"id":43810,"date":"2020-10-22T01:00:03","date_gmt":"2020-10-21T15:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=43810"},"modified":"2020-10-20T15:27:29","modified_gmt":"2020-10-20T05:27:29","slug":"childrens-week-to-provide-online-fun-for-everyone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/childrens-week-to-provide-online-fun-for-everyone\/","title":{"rendered":"Children&#8217;s week to provide online fun for everyone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CHILDREN\u2019S Week begins on Saturday (October 24), with a raft of free online activities available to residents through the Surf Coast Shire\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<p>The Surf Coast Shire council along with the Early Years Reference Group are providing a diverse range of sessions, from building your own rocket launcher and backyard obstacle course, to playdough making and nature play.<\/p>\n<p>Torquay business WildlifeXposure will also be hosting an online interactive marine life session.<\/p>\n<p>Surf Coast Shire council general manager Culture and Community Chris Pike said the week had plenty to offer families despite the changes necessitated by COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile Children\u2019s Week will look a bit different this year, I\u2019m pleased that local families can still take part in such a diverse range of free online activities sure to suit all stages and interests,\u201d Mr Pike said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d also like to recognise the dedication and innovation shown by all Surf Coast early years professionals who have unfailingly continued to educate and care for our children in a very difficult year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Children\u2019s Week is a global initiative that aims to promote the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).<\/p>\n<p>The theme of this year\u2019s Children\u2019s Week is Article 15 of the UNRC, which is a \u201cchildren\u2019s right to meet together and to join groups and organisations, as long as this does not stop other people from enjoying their rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For a full list of events head to <a href=\"http:\/\/surfcoast.vic.gov.au\/ChildrensWeek2020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>surfcoast.vic.gov.au\/ChildrensWeek2020<\/b><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The activities will be available to access anytime for a two-week period after Children\u2019s Week begins.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CHILDREN\u2019S Week begins on Saturday (October 24), with a raft of free online activities available to residents through the Surf Coast Shire\u2019s website.
