<\/p>\nGREATER social housing opportunities are now available in Grovedale, thanks to various Victorian Government initiatives created to assist people facing family violence and homelessness.<\/p>\n
Twenty-five modern town houses were built, all with two or three bedrooms. The houses were funded through two Victorian Government initiatives: Social Housing Growth Build and Operate Fund and Accommodation for the Homeless. Salvation Army Housing Victoria provided valuable land and capital contribution.<\/p>\n
State Member for South Barwon Darren Cheeseman said the homes adopted modern design standard, six-star NaTHERS energy rating and were safe and secure options for people on the priority waiting list.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese homes will make a huge difference to people in our community who have been struggling to find stable accommodation and will give them the foundation to recover and rebuild their lives,\u201d Mr Cheeseman said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve always agreed that we should judge our society by how we treat its most vulnerable. I look forward to seeing more partnerships like this to provide housing for Victorians in need.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Cheeseman commended the architects and design team involved on the project when he toured the town houses at their official unveiling. He praised their innovative and creative design.<\/p>\n
The homes have been built as part of the 1000 homes initiative announced In 2018 by the Victorian Government. Recently another 26 one-and-two-bedroom homes were built in the Greater Geelong region.<\/p>\n
Minister for Housing Richard Wynne said everybody deserved safe and secure housing.<\/p>\n
“The Social Housing Growth Fund Build and Operate program will deliver more than 780 units to make sure people sleeping rough, at risk of homelessness, and those escaping family violence can find a home.”<\/p>\n
Treasurer Tim Pallas echoed those thoughts.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis billion-dollar fund will help to ensure there are more affordable homes for more Victorians, so they can get ahead and thrive,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
