Torquay Food Aid is one of those organisations. Right now they are encouraging people to come forward for support as we near the holiday months. Likewise they are encouraging people to donate any Christmas foods like ham, nibbles, custard and cakes.<\/p>\n
According to their president Michael Buckley, all are welcome.<\/p>\n
\u201cTorquay Food Aid has served the local community for over 26 years, supplementing much needed extra food items to supplement vulnerable individuals\u2019 and families\u2019 food requirements without charge,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnyone who needs extra food is welcome. We\u2019re here to help. Client confidentiality is assured, don\u2019t be afraid to ask.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Buckley, a retired GP, became president of the organisation as COVID started to unfold. He describes it as an \u201cinteresting year \u2013 everything has changed\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince COVID-19 we moved into a large building at the rear of 2 Pimelea Way, Torquay (off Grossmans Road near the ambulance station). We have a wonderful access to much-needed extra food stocks from multiple local donors and suppliers.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said local businesses such as Zeally Bay Sourdough and Bakers Delight and Ryan\u2019s IGA provided items for Torquay Food Aid.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re open each Wednesday afternoon and clients pick from a very generous supply of food for their parcels. We have a huge range of food and household items including fresh fruit and vegetables, eggs, bread, frozen meals, non-perishables, personal items, and laundry or kitchen items.\u201d<\/p>\n
Torquay Food Aid is encouraging people to contact them if they need assistance and if they wish to donate any Christmas foods to the cause.<\/p>\n
