The Hello Happy Hour event is just around the corner and legends all over are putting their hand up to be a street champion.<\/p>\n
The street champion is responsible for uniting their street and making sure everyone pops out to say hello.<\/p>\n
Surf Coast resident Melinda Hickey put her hand up to be a street champion, and said her street was planning to get together, have a drink and play some games.<\/p>\n
“We only haven’t met one couple on the street, because they moved in during lockdown, but everyone is attending our say hello event,” she said.<\/p>\n
“Even though restrictions have eased, people are still cautious about gathering together, so I was excited to get everyone together.<\/p>\n
“It is an extremely important event. We are in a new estate, so there are lots of new people that don’t know their neighbours yet.”<\/p>\n
Event organiser Laura Connor said it was easy to be a street champion.<\/p>\n
“It’s not hard, all it means to be a champion is to invite others in your street and make sure no one misses out,” she said.<\/p>\n
“Once registered you can download a flyer with your street name on it so when they find it in their letterbox they know it’s from someone in their very own street or you can simply knock on their door with the flyer in hand, from there it’s up to the individual street what they want to do.”<\/p>\n
Ms Connor said the response had been positive so far and the community was getting creative.<\/p>\n
“People love it and think it’s a great initiative,” she said.<\/p>\n
“Some people have told us they are having a street party on the 4th and are hoping to dance in the street.”<\/p>\n
