THE surfboard bus shelter project has reached a milestone, with the boards safely mounted on two shelters near Surf Coast Secondary College.<\/p>\n
Students at the college made the six brightly coloured \u201cblanks\u201d, which were signed by contestants at this year\u2019s Rip Curl Pro.<\/p>\n
The community has responded very favourably so far, and is looking forward to seeing more being placed in \u201cSurf City\u201d bus shelters next year.<\/p>\n
The project was funded by Intrapac Property, developer of Quay 2, and an anonymous donor.<\/p>\n
Cr Rose Hodge said the boards are sensational welcoming local community art icons.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey benefit the community, visitors, but most importantly our students that will soon become our town leaders.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe project fits perfectly within the aims of the Shire\u2019s 2016 Youth Survey.\u201d<\/p>\n
Surf Coast Secondary College materials technology instructor Peter Gunning said several Year 10 Wood Technology students really enjoyed producing the boards and felt they were contributing something of great value to their community, and looked forward to doing the same for the 2018 Rip Curl Pro.<\/p>\n
Principal Scott Diamond hoped that these sorts of projects would be the impetus for further funding into joint school-community art installations.<\/p>\n
Surf Coast Secondary College will hold its annual \u201cArtwave\u201d exhibition tonight (Thursday) from 6.30pm, presenting students\u2019 art works to the community.<\/p>\n
Within this presentation will be their next community art initiative, the Surf Coast Shire \u201cArt Box\u201d Murals Project, to be installed on some VicRoads traffic signal boxes during December and January.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
