<\/p>\nBESPOKE local lamb wholesaler Bell Beach Lamb is looking to expand its business following increasing demand for its quality cuts.<\/p>\n
Local residents David O\u2019Brien and Graham Osborne started the business in 2018 after the pair discovered a mutual interest in farming lamb.<\/p>\n
Their growing team now includes Peter McGrath and Mark Oldham and, according to Mr Osborne, a former AFL footballer, the business is showing positive signs.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is still early days, but we\u2019re now taking 15 to 20 lambs off to the abattoir and we\u2019re not trying that hard \u2013 we do a social media post and the lambs get picked up pretty quickly,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to expand it \u2013 Dave has approval to sell directly from a retail site we have been building on his block and we are feeling optimistic.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve had our stock in various places, but our problem has been supply.\u201d<\/p>\n
The grass fed lamb are bred from a mix of Southdown, Ile de France and Merino sheep and the business has agistment arrangements with four local farms.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
It is a positive outcome for business and local farm land alike as the lamb control grass growth, which can be a fire hazard in the summer months.<\/p>\n
According to Mr Osborne they are on the lookout for more local land to meet growing demand.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is a big difference between what you buy in the supermarket and what comes straight off the paddock,\u201d Mr Osborne said.<\/p>\n
Prospective customers have several options and can select from roast or barbeque or spit cuts of lamb.<\/p>\n
