THE Surf Coast Shire and Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority (GORCAPA) have restarted beach patrols with the aim of helping people have safe and fun times during summer.<\/p>\n

The all-terrain vehicle will be patrolling beaches from Torquay to Lorne to ensure people are observing regulations – especially those relating to dogs – and taking care of each other and the environment during the busy peak period.<\/p>\n

Rangers will be monitoring the observation of dog regulations, including time-share zones, dog-free zones, having dogs on leashes unless in a regulated off-leash zone (where the owner must have effective control of the dog at all times), and carrying waste bags and picking up after their dogs.<\/p>\n

The all-terrain vehicle is jointly operated by the shire and GORCAPA, and provides rangers with increased mobility and visibility on beaches.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe appreciate that after a long, tough year people might be itching to enjoy some activity or downtime at the beach,\u201d Cr Mike Bodsworth said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want everyone to have the best time, and that means being respectful of others while sharing our beautiful environment.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur council and GORCAPA rangers will be proactively sharing safety messages, and particularly hoping to see people observing dog regulations.\u201d<\/p>\n

GORCAPA coastal reserves manager Caleb Hurrell encouraged people to act responsibly while enjoying their recreation time.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are urging beachgoers to respect other people, and the environment,” he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you are out enjoying our beautiful coast, please make sure you do the right thing \u2013 this includes observing dog regulations, taking your litter home and staying out of the dunes.\u201d<\/p>\n
