TORQUAY Parkrun has been pushed back to February to allow the event to best follow\u00a0COVID-19 restrictions.<\/p>\n
While organisers said it was a difficult decision to make, the event is predicting large crowds for the day and made better sense to buy some extra time and delay the event in the hope of more freedom around crowd numbers, which was originally set for January 16.<\/p>\n
A tentative date of February 6 has been set for the run.<\/p>\n
Torquay Parkrun event director Sarah O\u2019Dwyer said holding a COVIDSafe event had to be the\u00a0priority.<\/p>\n
\u201cTorquay Parkrun, in conjunction with Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority\u00a0and Surf Coast Shire Council, has made the difficult decision to delay our comeback until\u00a0February,\u201d Ms O\u2019Dwyer said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith the population across the Surf Coast swelling, higher than normal Parkrun crowds have\u00a0been predicted.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are all desperate to get back with our parkrun mates and welcome newcomers, but it is\u00a0important we all work together to support COVIDSafe environments, and February will be here\u00a0before we know it.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Torquay Parkrun began in 2017 and has enjoyed 16,000 participants during that time.<\/p>\n
