DESIGNERS have been invited to take part in a competition to find the best vision for the redevelopment of the Point Grey Precinct.<\/p>\n
The Great Ocean Road Coast Committee (GORCC) is seeking expressions of interest from multi-disciplinary teams for the project.<\/p>\n
According to the tender, Point Grey is already in the top five sites on the Great Ocean Road for visitation but its current design, experiences, or activities do not make it a \u201cmust-stop\u201d destination.<\/p>\n
The vision for the precinct is \u201ca creative design, encouraging vibrant activity within an exciting public realm, which will entice visitors to stop, spend and stay.\u201d<\/p>\n
GORCC chief executive officer Richard Davies said the competition was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create something unique and distinctive at one of the most outstanding sites in Lorne on the Great Ocean Road.<\/p>\n
\u201cPoint Grey is of vital importance to both Lorne\u2019s rich history and to its economic future. We have been working closely with the community to develop this project and make Point Grey a destination to stop, spend and stay.\u201d<\/p>\n
Expressions of interest will be assessed by a jury including Baracco Wright director Mauro Baracco, KGA director Kristin Green, Office of the Victorian Government Architect\u2019s Victorian Design Review Panel manager Bronwen Hamilton and John Wardle Architects director John Wardle.<\/p>\n
Up to four teams will be selected from the expressions of interest, and will be invited to participate in a single stage design competition.<\/p>\n
Competitors are invited to provide creative and inspiring responses to the brief, while are also achievable within the time and budget available.<\/p>\n
The jury will select a winner from the Stage Two competitors, who will be contracted to deliver design services through to completion, pending planning approval.<\/p>\n
The design competition follows a precinct planning process and a completed business case for the project, a number of research papers, workshops, and community consultation.<\/p>\n
Expressions of interest are due by December 21.<\/p>\n
