CHRISTMAS is just around the corner, and as many families prepare for the copious amount of gifts and food to be given and received, some families are dreading the festivities due to loss or lack of finances.<\/p>\n
Torquay Food Aid is inviting the local community to dig deep and help fill the Christmas tables of those in need.<\/p>\n
The volunteer-run organisation will be distributing Christmas hampers filled with all the ingredients for a
\ntraditional, festive lunch.<\/p>\n
Donations of non-perishable items can be dropped in to marked boxes at IGA Torquay, Spring Creek Community House, and at most churches in Torquay.<\/p>\n
Torquay Food Aid distributes around 40 hampers each year to a variety of people who need assistance for a number of reasons.<\/p>\n
The Surf Coast Shire offices have been collecting Christmas food items and are happy making a difference this Christmas.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe appeal is a fantastic way to display your community and festive season spirit,\u201d Cr Rose Hodge said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI encourage people to donate non-perishable food and Christmas items into council office in Torquay this week. A small donation can make a big difference to those less fortunate and families who are in need.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe appeal is a credit to Torquay Food Aid and the generosity they show each year.\u201d<\/p>\n
All donations must be dropped off at the shire offices, located at 1 Merrijig Drive, by tomorrow (December 15).<\/p>\n
