BOOK lovers turned up in force to the newly-relocated Torquay Rotary Book Fair, which was held over the Australia Day weekend.<\/p>\n

The annual event, usually held in the Torquay Scout Hall in Spring Creek Recreation Reserve, moved to a vacant shop in the Torquay Village shopping centre so it could keep running under social distancing requirements.<\/p>\n

Paul Moran from the Torquay Rotary Club<\/a> said people turned out in droves from Saturday to Tuesday, with queues waiting patiently and numbers limited indoors at any one time due to COVIDSafe protocols.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe new space has been a blessing as it’s been able to accommodate more people this year, as well as the air conditioning assisting with the warm conditions experienced this weekend.<\/p>\n

\u201cTorquay Rotary has been really pleased with the support shown from the local community as well as from some of the many visitors we\u2019ve had in Torquay.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis year, the book fair has been bigger and better than ever.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Moran said book sales had been encouraging, with the volunteers needing to work hard to constantly replenish stock throughout the day.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere really is a great range of books this year, including plenty for the kids, so it was a great opportunity for people to pick up a bargain with the vast majority of books selling for just $1 each.<\/p>\n
