SURF Coast Shire Council\u2019s new four-bin kerbside waste collection service starts Monday, February 1.
\nThis means all properties in the Surf Coast Shire that use the kerbside collection service will need to start sorting household waste into four bins.
\n\u201cWe know this is a change for everyone, but the new four-bin system is going to make an enormous difference in reducing waste that unnecessarily ends up as landfill,\u201d Surf Coast Shire Mayor Cr Libby Stapleton said.
\n\u201cA little bit of extra effort by all of us will go a long way in minimising our impact on our precious environment, so thank you to everyone for playing their part. Each of us should feel really proud of being part of such a positive change.\u201d<\/p>\n

The new glass-only bin will be collected every four weeks and accepts glass bottles and jars without lids.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Summary of new waste service<\/strong>
\nPurple lid bin: The new glass-only bin will be collected every four weeks and accepts glass bottles and jars without lids.
\nLime green lid bin: The food organics and garden organics (FOGO) bin will be collected weekly in urban areas, and fortnightly in rural areas.
\nAll of your food scraps \u2013 including fruits and vegetables, meat, dairy, bread and bones \u2013 will go into your FOGO bin along with your garden waste.
\nYour benchtop kitchen caddy (which was delivered to homes with the purple-lid bin for glass) can help you collect your food scraps and transfer them to your FOGO kerbside bin.
\nYellow lid bin: This bin will continue to be used to collect plastics numbered 1-5, metal, paper and cardboard and will still be collected every fortnight.
\nRed lid bin: This remains the bin for other general household waste, and will be collected every fortnight.

What you need to do<\/strong>
\nIf you haven\u2019t received your new purple lid bin and kitchen caddy (the beige bucket with a lid used for collecting food scraps), please let us know via www.surfcoast.vic.gov.au\/request or call 5261 0600.
\nRemove your kitchen caddy from your glass-only bin and take it inside. Pop it in your kitchen so you can use it to collect scraps to transfer to the FOGO (lime green lid) bin.
\nIf you choose to use caddy liners, only use the council supplied ones (which you\u2019ll find in your caddy) or any other fully compostable ones listed on council\u2019s website.
\nCouncil has delivered enough compostable liners to get you through up to six months. When you do run out, you can pick up an additional pack at any of council\u2019s waste transfer stations or at the civic office in Torquay once it reopens.
\nSort your waste into the four bins and put the relevant bins out on your normal collection day. Ratepayers will have received a collection calendar at your primary address, and everyone can download on council\u2019s website or on our new rubbish and recycling app: SCRRApp.
\nIf you find after a few months that the bin configuration isn\u2019t working, you can choose to get bigger or extra bins for a fee, or smaller bins at no cost.<\/p>\n

New Surf Coast Rubbish and Recycling App: SCRRApp<\/strong>
\nSurf Coast Shire Council will launch its new Surf Coast Rubbish and Recycling App (SCRRApp) next week.
\nThe app is a quick and easy way for residents to get up-to-date information and notifications about waste, recycling, kerbside collections and more.
\nYou will be able to:
\nget reminders about bin night view and download your collection calendar check what goes in each bin
\nreceive notifications when there is a change to the service, like a broken down truck, code red fire days, or an extra scheduled collection.
