THE Anglesea Bowling Club and Great Ocean Properties’ Twilight Jack Attack Social Bowls League is back, after a delayed restart due to COVID-19 restrictions.<\/p>\n

The new five-week season starts on February 25, and entries are now open for the sixth season of the fun lawn bowling format that features complimentary pre-game snacks, end of play finger food, raffles and a charity auction.<\/p>\n

If you haven\u2019t already enjoyed the Anglesea Bowling Club\u2019s modern facilities, you can look forward to playing on the recently accredited second green, as well as the established front of clubhouse green.<\/p>\n

All equipment is available with new colourful club bowls in small and medium sizes to suit beginners and those who already have the bowling bug.<\/p>\n

The social competition, sponsored by Great Ocean Properties, is likely to have you laughing while you \u201cattack the Jack\u201d, and is a far cry from the strict origins of the game with its antiquated traditions of white clothing, mandated hemlines and long white trousers.<\/p>\n

However, the aim of the game remains the same \u2013 get your biased bowl close to the small white or yellow jack.<\/p>\n

The game of lawn bowls originated in the 13th century, and the oldest surviving green is Southampton Old Bowling Green in the UK, which was first used in 1299. Today, 40 countries around the world have Lawn Bowling Associations registered with the World Bowls Centre<\/a> in Edinburgh, Scotland.<\/p>\n

Starting at 6pm, teams of three to five players – interchange is allowed and guests are welcome – play 12 ends of two-bowls triples (three players), including power plays, loud music and suitable for any age and fitness level.<\/p>\n

Entry is $30 per team regardless of the number of players.<\/p>\n

Champs and chumps are welcome, with weekly prize winners and the competition champions announced on the final night.<\/p>\n

Anglesea Bowling Club members will be available to help with any queries and to provide hints for novices and experienced players alike.<\/p>\n

All you need is enthusiasm, a preparedness to have fun and improve your skills, and flat soled shoes or bare feet.<\/p>\n
