LORNE-Aireys Inlet P-12 College will provide improved support to students with special needs thanks to a $35,000 grant, announced this week.<\/p>\n
The grant comes via the state government\u2019s Inclusive Schools Fund and will be used to create new passive seating areas at the school\u2019s Lorne campus, allowing students to engage socially in a welcoming environment. Lorne campus Principal Karen Biggelaar said to provide zones for students with special needs with a place to relax and interact with their peers.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt will give them a quiet space where they can have conversations and spend time with their friends and other students, away from all the running around.<\/p>\n
\u201cA number of our special needs students need quieter and calmer spaces, so this grant will help us to address those needs and tailor their learning environment.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Inclusive Schools Fund \u2013 as part of the Special Needs Plan \u2013 is providing $10 million over four years to build inclusive school facilities and help government schools better support the social and educational needs of young people with a disability.<\/p>\n
Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney said further grants from the Inclusive Schools Fund will be available later this year.<\/p>\n
