Uniting Vic.Tas<\/a>, the community services organisation of the Uniting Church Synod of Victoria and Tasmania.<\/p>\nPancake Day, also known as Shrove Tuesday, is the last day before the start of Lent, a period of fasting, prayer and reflection in the run-up to Easter.<\/p>\n
It references the old tradition of using up all the luxury goods in the pantry such as flour, butter and eggs, before the Lenten period of abstinence.<\/p>\n
\u201cPancake Day is a great way for us to get together, have something good to eat and help others at the same time\u201d, local co-ordinator Mary Bremner said.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople love the cafe-style atmosphere of our event and come back year-after-year for our great pancakes, tea and coffee.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s also a real highlight for the hungry children who rush for one of our famous pancakes at the end of the school day\u201d.<\/p>\n
Uniting Vic.Tas supports people experiencing homelessness, drug and alcohol addiction or mental illness.<\/p>\n
The organisation assists people with disability to make their own life choices and assist older people to maintain their independence and enjoy life.<\/p>\n
It offers access to training and meaningful employment and supports newly arrived people in the community, as well as those in early childhood through early learning and family support.<\/p>\n
Since 2002, Pancake Day events have raised more $2 million for local communities across Victoria and Tasmania.<\/p>\n
The 2021 Pancake Day event will be held at the Aireys Inlet Community Hall on Tuesday, February 16, from 11am-4pm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
