{"id":49019,"date":"2021-02-11T00:56:04","date_gmt":"2021-02-10T13:56:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=49019"},"modified":"2021-05-10T22:33:27","modified_gmt":"2021-05-10T11:33:27","slug":"aireys-inlet-market-rebounds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/aireys-inlet-market-rebounds\/","title":{"rendered":"Aireys Inlet market trading rebounds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AIREYS INLET Market stallholders have reported one of their strongest Januarys ever after a difficult 2020 saw market closures and forced many operators to go online.<\/p>\n<p>The market is famous for its eclectic range of arts, crafts and local produce.<\/p>\n<p>StarShine Jewellery stall holder, Nicky Hulme, relies on the market as an important part of her family\u2019s livelihood and said while it was a challenging winter, summer trading had rebounded strongly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile we were still able to keep in contact with people through the Aireys Inlet virtual market &#8211; the actual markets have an enormous impact on our ability to trade and maintain a viable business,\u201d Ms Hulme said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a very successful summer for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A detailed COVIDSafe plan allowed for the market\u2019s return which included a new set-up of outdoor-only stalls and a one-way directional flow of people movement.<\/p>\n<p>The market was previously based in the Aireys Inlet Community Hall but organisers say many people actually prefer the new picturesque outdoor setting under the gum trees.<\/p>\n<p>Market administrator, Fay Valcanis, said regular stallholders were a top priority in the post second-wave push.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince returning last November, our focus has been on ensuring our regular stallholders are catered for at as many markets as possible, given the difficult year they faced through COVID,\u201d Ms Valcanis said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore than 100 stallholders have attended this season, and we have been able to include at least 10 new stallholders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new stalls include <a href=\"https:\/\/greatoceanroadgin.com.au\/\">Great Ocean Road Gin<\/a> from Aireys Inlet, Torquay artist Lucy Burke\u2019s Loose Ink Design and Paidi Flynn prints and photos which are inspired by Geelong and the Surf Coast.<\/p>\n<p>The Aireys Inlet Market runs on selected Sundays during the year.
