U3ASurfCoast\u2019s final week for 2017 was celebrated last week with a reading of Anzac Biscuits, a one-act comedy followed by drinks and nibbles.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The play, under the guidance of local well-known Torquay Theatre Troupe director Gay Bell, tells the story of the shenanigans behind a U3A committee meeting, which doesn\u2019t go according to plan.<\/p>\n

This year has been a year of steady growth for U3ASurfCoast with a consistent increase in members and the range of classes and activities on offer.<\/p>\n

One of the highlights this year was the Occasional Lecture in Anglesea from high profile former politician and creative thinker Barry Jones on \u201cAustralia\u2019s political crisis and how we can fix it\u201d.<\/p>\n

U3ASurfCoast faces a number of challenges as 2018 looms on the horizon with the retirement of long-time supporter and energetic committee member Toni McCormack.<\/p>\n

A planning meeting held on December 4 examined priorities and tactics for 2018, where attendees identified the need for more affordable venues for classes and the hope that new volunteers would take up a number of small tasks, which have now become essential for running an efficient and productive U3A.<\/p>\n

On January 17 next year, we are participating with Geelong and Corio Bay U3A in the first Summer School.<\/p>\n

Our first term enrolments will also open on that day with term one classes beginning on February 12.<\/p>\n
