WORK is set to commence on Jan Juc’s much anticipated outdoor performance area now that coronavirus restrictions have eased.<\/p>\n
The $140,000 project will transform the Bob Pettit Reserve into a natural amphitheatre which will allow the community to hold small, local performances.<\/p>\n
The amphitheatre has been fully funded under the Morrison Government’s Community Development Grants Program and was designed in partnership with the community.<\/p>\n
Surf Coast Shire Mayor Libby Stapleton said the community-inspired project will be enjoyed by many for years to come.<\/p>\n
“This has been a wonderful partnership project, led by the community right from the start and I know how excited the Jan Juc Live group is to see all their hard work about to come to life,” Cr Stapleton said.<\/p>\n
The project, initiated by Jan Juc Live, has combined more than three years of work, with member Paul Thomson saying they are “rapt” that their vision is finally coming to life.<\/p>\n
“It will be great for the community to eventually come together and enjoy local entertainment while reconnecting with family, friends and neighbours,” he said.<\/p>\n
“With what everyone has gone through in 2020 – and continue to cope with – we can look forward to a variety of entertainment.”<\/p>\n
While complementing the surrounding environment, the design will be called ‘Under the Yellow Gums Stage’ designed by Zen Architects together with Mark Trinham, Perry Mills & Associates Landscape Architects, ACNL Engineering and Jan Juc Live.<\/p>\n
“Under the Yellow Gums Stage will be a beautiful, architecturally designed feature made of sculptured timber columns and stainless-steel arches that will complement the natural environment,” Cr Stapleton said.<\/p>\n
“The local arts community has long been calling for a place where locals can come together for boutique events like Christmas Carols and acoustic performances, so I’m very happy that works will begin soon.
