AUCTION fever has hit a new level with McCartney Real Estate\u2019s auction of 17 Carnoustie Avenue, Jan Juc, seeing the reserve price blown out of the water by $1 million.<\/p>\n

After another successful auction campaign, the four-bedroom home built by local award-winning builder Mark Gleeson went for $3 million at the fall of the hammer to a local couple.<\/p>\n

Positioned in one of the Golden Triangle\u2019s most sought after streets, the home is only metres to the Jan Juc foreshore and the Surf Coast walking track.<\/p>\n

The auction launched into action with an opening bid of $2 million which was the reserve.<\/p>\n

With more than 150 people present, seven active bidders then maintained constant and competitive bidding, that was fast and furious at various stages, with the eventual buyer just holding front and centre from the start of the auction to the end.<\/p>\n

McCartney<\/a> director Tim Carson said there were close to 70 groups through the open homes and several private appointments, so they knew the interest in this property was high.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom an auctioneering point of view it was a phenomenal auction with constant bidding and buyers really determined to secure this quality-built Mark Gleeson home in a first-class location of Juc,\u201d Mr Carson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe enquiry and the strength in today\u2019s market is like we\u2019ve never seen before – it\u2019s certainly a terrific time to be a vendor, that\u2019s for sure.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt just shows the value of taking properties all the way to auction and not selling them beforehand, as you never know what buyers are willing to pay with open competition as we have experienced in our last three auctions.\u201d<\/p>\n

The property was originally a holiday home for the late Bruce Reid, a politician from Bendigo, and was sold on behalf of his four children.<\/p>\n

Mr Reid, who passed away last year, was born in Bendigo and served in the military in 1958.<\/p>\n

In 1976, he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Council as the Liberal member for Bendigo.<\/p>\n

In 1990, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Liberal member for the federal seat of Bendigo, defeating John Brumby.<\/p>\n

Both Torquay and Jan Juc have a great connection to regional Victoria with many Bendigo and Ballarat families having a long tradition of owning holiday homes on the Surf Coast.<\/p>\n
