{"id":50612,"date":"2021-04-09T00:29:45","date_gmt":"2021-04-08T13:29:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=50612"},"modified":"2021-04-12T12:37:04","modified_gmt":"2021-04-12T01:37:04","slug":"inaugural-bells-luncheon-raises-over-30000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/inaugural-bells-luncheon-raises-over-30000\/","title":{"rendered":"Inaugural Bells luncheon raises over $30,000"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE inaugural fundraising event ventured into by Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club and Torquay Boardriders took place on April 1 with more than $30,000 raised.<\/p>\n<p>The luncheon held at the Jan Juc Life Saving clubhouse sold out with a capacity of 150 guests in attendance.<\/p>\n<p>Titled \u2018Bells from a Local Perspective\u2019, the event honoured the long history of the Rip Curl Pro: Bells Beach competition, as well as the community\u2019s connection to surfing.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/04\/B07K9226-NeilRidgw_45375.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"773\" height=\"516\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With the sun shining over the Jan Juc coastline, the luncheon marked the beginning of a burgeoning relationship between the two local clubs as well as the beginning of new staple event on both social calendars.<\/p>\n<p>Special guests on the day included tennis star Mark Philippoussis, Rip Curl Pro: Bells Beach runner-up Adam Robertson as well as 10-time champion Gail Couper.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to generous donations from club members, local businesses and the community, the luncheon generated more than $35,000.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/04\/B07K9131-AngelaBall_16093.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"792\" height=\"528\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Prior the luncheon the Boardriders club relied solely on memberships to get them through financially following the cancellation of the last two Bells surfboard raffles.<\/p>\n<p>The proceeds from the fundraising event are anticipated to go towards a new van and to continue to drive junior development at the club.<\/p>\n<p>Boardriders treasurer Peter Mann said the two clubs together were able to form a ground-breaking and unique partnership.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/04\/B07K9043-crowdcoll_50965.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"810\" height=\"540\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn my 15 years as treasurer this has been the most phenomenal event we have ever run, and the much-needed funds can now be used for the benefit of all members,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club will use its profits to purchase and upgrade essential life saving equipment.<\/p>\n<p>Both clubs are planning on returning with the luncheon event in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/04\/B07K9195-grouphero_63927.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"842\" height=\"561\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE inaugural fundraising event ventured into by Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club and Torquay Boardriders took place on April 1 with more than $30,000 raised.
