{"id":50741,"date":"2021-04-07T14:07:48","date_gmt":"2021-04-07T03:07:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/geelong-and-district-clubs-make-a-return\/"},"modified":"2021-04-07T14:07:48","modified_gmt":"2021-04-07T03:07:48","slug":"geelong-and-district-clubs-make-a-return","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/geelong-and-district-clubs-make-a-return\/","title":{"rendered":"Geelong and District clubs make a return"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Geelong and District Football Netball League will finally make its return this weekend after an abandoned 2020 season.<\/p>\n<p>The 12 teams are looking forward to taking to the field and court after not playing a competitive game for more than 18 months.<\/p>\n<p>Winchelsea club president Daniel Greskie said the return of competitive sport is also much needed for the wider community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Most clubs have a good following for Thursday night meals and of course on game day. It&#8217;s not just the players, but the whole community really benefits from local sport being back this weekend. It&#8217;s a wonderful outlet for a lot of people.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This weekend the Blues&#8217; will face reigning premiers Bannockburn, who will be unfurling two flags in a night game at Victoria Park.<\/p>\n<p>Bannockburn defeated Thomson 11.5 (71) to 9.11 (65) in the 2019 GDFNL seniors grand final to win their first flag since 2003.
