THE Torquay Tornadoes will take to the hockey pitch this weekend for the first time since 2019.<\/p>\n
The club will have nine teams playing in Hockey Geelong competitions from this Saturday, April 24, with teams entered in every age group from Under 8s to Under 17s, as well as two women\u2019s and two men\u2019s teams.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter a COVID-affected 2020 it will be great to see hockey being played again,\u201d Tornadoes president Andrew Crowley said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Tornadoes are one of the strongest clubs in the competition and have space in all age groups and seniors for new members.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter if you are a seasoned player that has moved to the coast and wanting to connect to a club, or a new player.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe junior teams are in the Under 8,10,12,14 and 17 age groups and are still keen to recruit new members.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Women\u2019s Division 1 side are the reigning premiers but need to recruit a few more experienced players. The women\u2019s section of the club is also looking for goalkeepers.<\/p>\n
The men\u2019s section has a new coach, Tom Woodman from Greensborough Hockey Club, who led the team into 2020.<\/p>\n
Mr Crowley said the Torquay Tornadoes had a great club culture which welcomed new members.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are inclusive and everyone gets a go, no matter of ability,\u201d Crowley said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are so lucky to be located in the Surf Coast Shire as we always have new players moving to the region and our community understands the benefits of kids playing sport.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe also love teaching new juniors the skills in hockey.\u201d<\/p>\n
