{"id":52508,"date":"2021-05-24T13:00:12","date_gmt":"2021-05-24T02:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=52508"},"modified":"2021-05-19T12:32:41","modified_gmt":"2021-05-19T01:32:41","slug":"tslsc-celebrates-the-past-and-present","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/tslsc-celebrates-the-past-and-present\/","title":{"rendered":"TSLSC celebrates the past and present"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IN 1945 the Torquay Surf Life Saving Club pioneered patrolling on Victorian beaches and now in 2021 they celebrate 75 years in operation, while recognising past and present champions at the annual awards night.<\/p>\n<p>Taking place at RACV Torquay on May 15, the night celebrated the 2020\/21 season which was the longest patrolling season on record, while paying respect to those who have helped establish the 75-year-old legacy.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-30038 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/05\/MDLGASTA_37001-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>Starting at 6.30pm and lasting until midnight, the event included plenty to eat, drink and music to dance to for the large crowd in attendance.<\/p>\n<p>TSLSC director of Life Saving William Fleming presented the Most Outstanding Junior Life Savers awards to Bella O\u2019Dwyer and Hugo Maddalena while Shane Thompson was awarded for the most patrol hours.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-30038 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/05\/FsvabLCg_14437-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>Club captain Cam Mercer recognised Matthew Blair as the Best Club Person, while the Club Captain\u2019s award went to Scott Dower.<\/p>\n<p>Head coach Nick Thomas presented the senior awards with the Athletes of the Year going to Leni Gilbert, Jayden Schram and Jemima Fisher, as well as the most improved athletes being awarded to Hamish McGowan and Lillie Quinlan.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-30038 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/05\/efZZhM5Q_77048-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>Will Martin-Alcaide and Jake Jenkins were awarded the Beach Athletes of the Year while the Ken Pollard OAM award went to Miles Ranogajec.<\/p>\n<p>Recognised as a future leader, the final winner of the night was Kate McCardel who has awarded with the President\u2019s Award.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-30038 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/05\/WCFZu3mA_23340-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-30038 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/05\/vpQ1Q8kA_31237-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>IN 1945 the Torquay Surf Life Saving Club pioneered patrolling on Victorian beaches and now in 2021 they celebrate 75 years in operation, while recognising past and present champions at the annual awards night.
