CONSTRUCTION has commenced on a $1.6 million-dollar park, providing an inclusive community space for Armstrong Creek\u2019s growing population.<\/p>\n
Geelong mayor Stephanie Asher welcomed the commencement of construction, which formally began last week at the 7500m2 site on the Warralily Grange.<\/p>\n
The elevated position provides panoramic views across the Surf Coast will facilitate a downhill mountain bike trail designed with challenges to cater for beginners through to advanced riders.<\/p>\n
Along with biking facilities, the grassland themed playground will include a three-quarter netball\/basketball court, skating features as well as slides, swings, nets and climbing structures.<\/p>\n
Warralily urban designer Jeremy Minter said the playspace will be inclusive with adventure and explorative challenges suitable for all ages and abilities.<\/p>\n
\u201cInclusive design is the key to good design and our social responsibility,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cMost importantly, it\u2019s about creating a space where the community can come together, and this place will be a magnet.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cr Asher said the booming suburb of Warralily represented a large portion of Geelong\u2019s population growth.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith so many families moving to this region, we want our new growth areas to be great places to live, with plenty of open space and access to excellent community facilities,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe City of Greater Geelong has been closely involved in the design of this park and we think it will be something pretty special and unique.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe mountain bike flow trail is very exciting \u2013 it will be Greater Geelong\u2019s second facility of this nature and recognises the growing popularity of mountain biking as a sport and recreational activity.\u201d<\/p>\n
The design of the Warralily Grange Park is based off the established Mirambeena Park and will service the community of more than 9,000 residents.<\/p>\n
Warralily director Mark Casey called the park another win for the community which already boasts a number of retail, sporting and community facilities including three new schools.<\/p>\n
\u201cWarralily ticks all the boxes in terms of proximity to beaches, lifestyle and community amenity, plus our focus on the environment which is highly attractive to the market,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
This financial year, Warralily is on track to pass the Armstrong Creek growth area\u2019s record sale of 600 lots after selling almost 100 blocks in April.<\/p>\n
Construction on the park is anticipated to be completed in December 2021 ahead of the summer school holidays.<\/p>\n
