THE Anglesea Performing Arts Group has shown its support for Aireys Inlet Rural Australians for Refugees (AIRAR) with a generous donation.<\/p>\n
The independent theatre company donated $650, which represented the entire proceeds of the opening night of its recent production Shadows of Angels<\/em>.<\/p>\n Award-winning Iris Walsh-Howling directed a four-person cast in the play set which is set in the slums of 1920s Collingwood, telling the gritty stories of four women beset by hardship, tragedy and crime.<\/p>\n Written by Fleur Murphy with an original music score by Kirstin Honey, the season comprised eight performances, run over the first weeks of April.<\/p>\n Lina Libroaperto, one of the stars of the show, said the plays were always well supported by the community, so \u201cit is important to give something back\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cAIRAR\u2019s work is very close to our heart, so we were keen to support them with this donation,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n The Anglesea Performing Arts Group has been staging community theatre productions for more than 30 years.<\/p>\n AIRAR convenor Mary Bremner said her organisation was always very appreciative of the assistance provided to them by local groups and were especially grateful to the Anglesea Performing Arts Group.<\/p>\n \u201cWe will use it to support refugees in Geelong, who continue to face challenging times,\u201d Ms Bremner said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" THE Anglesea Performing Arts Group has shown its support for Aireys Inlet Rural Australians for Refugees (AIRAR) with a generous donation.
