INTEREST is being gauged in setting up a dedicated branch of Little Athletics on the Surf Coast.<\/p>\n
Torquay mother Claire Osborn is working with state body Little Athletics Victoria to seek feedback on whether it would be beneficial to establish a Surfcoast Little Athletics Centre.<\/p>\n
The sport runs over summer from October through to late March.<\/p>\n
It is a modified athletics program suited to children aged from 5-15 years of age and is based on track and field events such as running, jumping, throwing and walking events.<\/p>\n
\u201cLittle Athletics aims to develop children of all abilities by promoting positive attitudes and a healthy lifestyle through family and community involvement in athletic endeavours,\u201d Osborn said.<\/p>\n
She is distributing a survey to the parents of children at all the Surf Coast\u2019s primary and secondary schools.
\n\u201cWe\u2019re also seeking community feedback more broadly here,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Geelong has a well-established Little Athletics Club, founded in 1964 and now with more than 800 registered members.<\/p>\n
