A DIGITAL summit is heading to local screens with experts in the industry revealing their tips for sourcing a great story.<\/p>\n
Presented from Deakin University’s 360-degree immersive Nyaal Theatre, The Storymakers Institute will give virtual attendees the chance to unlock a diverse range of perspectives, experiences and knowledge.<\/p>\n
The June 24 event will feature researcher and senior lecturer of Indigenous knowledges Tyson Yunkaporta, award-winning author Sue Lawson, stage and screen actor Bert LaBont\u00e9, journalist and editor Alice Pung, ABC Australian Story journalist Belinda Hawkins and award-winning ABC broadcaster, documentary maker and event host, Joel Carnegie.<\/p>\n
Carnegie said telling stories was fundamental to being human, with the event set to equip attendees with what they need to become better storytellers.<\/p>\n
“The Storymakers Institute will spark your imagination, challenge your ideas and encourage you to consider new possibilities,” he said.<\/p>\n
“If you use stories as a creative, artist, writer, journalist, or communicator \u2013 or if you love stories and want to uncover ‘what makes a great story’ \u2013 then you won’t want to miss this virtual summit.”<\/p>\n
Hosted from 10am to 4.30pm, each presenter will get to delve deeper into how “great” stories are made while touching on ethical dilemmas as well as the responsibilities of a storyteller.<\/p>\n
Mayor Stephanie Asher said the summit will help attendees enhance their skills with insights from professionals.<\/p>\n

The day-long event will include a chance to ask the presenters questions as well as a virtual ‘Wayapa Wuurrk’ mindfulness session held by Dhudhuroa woman Thaedra Frangos.<\/p>\n
The summit will also host an exclusive 30-minute performance from guitarists and composers Maximillian Rudd and Wemba Wemba.
