SOME sweet work was rewarded at RACV Torquay Resort last week with the announcement of the winners of the resort\u2019s annual gingerbread house competition.<\/p>\n
The fundraising event for Torquay Food Aid is in its third year in 2017, and drew more than 100 entries and a big crowd of interested children and their parents to the presentation ceremony at the resort on Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n
The public was invited to cast their votes for the best house, and first place, with 92 votes, went to Giselle Seraiocco (lot 57); second place, with 70 votes, went to Jade Singer (lot 67); and third place, with 52 votes, went to Amy Stewart (lot 48).<\/p>\n
Other houses that drew 30 votes or more were Maddison Jones (lot 30), 45 votes; Marlow and Lottie Wilson (lot 18), 35 votes; Tahlia Steel (lot 92), 33 votes; and Millie, Maeve and Phoebe Crawford (lot 91), 30 votes.<\/p>\n
The competition raised $1,930 for Torquay Food Aid, and president Graeme Daws said the funding would be welcome.<\/p>\n
Torquay Food Aid made up 46 hampers to give out this Christmas; 11 more than in 2016.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt used to be quite often about the 30 mark, but we had 35 last year and 46 this year,\u201d Mr Daws said. \u201cThe need\u2019s there and also people get to hear about it.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said each hamper was worth between $80 and $100 but it did not cost Torquay Food Aid that much to put them together, as the group received many donations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
