THE Grovedale Football Club’s main pavilion will undergo much-needed renovations after being allocated about $60,000 in the City of Greater Geelong’s latest budget.
\nThe extra injection of cash for the Burdoo Reserve facility comes as a result of the original request of $310,000 being partially fulfilled by a federal government allocation of $250,000.
\nThe timing could not have been more opportune for the Tigers, as one of several football sides in the Greater Geelong area to receive funding for new modernised floodlights which aim to provide better visibility to local grounds during the later hours of the day and potential twilight matches.
\nThe new lighting upgrades promised by the City of Greater Geelong will improve up to seven separate sporting reserves.
\nJoint club president of the Grovedale Tigers, Simon Hose, said the club was grateful for the added support.
\n“We’re absolutely thrilled with it and super excited to receive a bit more funding for our facilities,” Hose said.
\nA primary concern for the club was the home changing rooms, with Hose stating that they were perhaps “not up to standards for male and female football”.
\n“For our junior football and our Auskick program it will mainly help to have some twilight games, which also relates back to our changing facilities,” Hose added.
\nHe said the extra finances for both the pavilion and the oval’s lighting upgrade will allow the club to create a more suitable environment for the men’s and women’s teams going forward and attract more kids to the club in the future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
