\nA SURF Coast Shire councillor has thanked the community for separating their waste and increasing the lifespan of the shire’s landfill site at Anglesea.
\nCr Mike Bodsworth took the opportunity to recognise the community’s key role in reducing waste to landfill during council discussion on contracts to operate and manage the Anglesea landfill and the transfer station.
\nThe two contracts, previously awarded in 2014 to Armistead Earthmoving, for a seven-year period have been extended for a further 12 months.
\nA report to council said operating the transfer station included supervision of customers, waste receival, compaction of waste in bins and management of site litter.
\n“Transfer station operations require a high level of attention to detail to ensure customers are adequately supervised to minimise contamination in bins, traffic management including interactions between pedestrians and heavy plant; as well as knowledge of both environmental and health and safety risks and their management,” the report said.
\n“Whilst the landfill and transfer station operations are performed under different contracts, it has however shown to be beneficial to have the same contractor where staff and plant can be utilised across both areas of operation.
\n“Armistead Earthmoving Pty Ltd have held both contracts for the past seven years.
\n“With the increase in resource recovery options at the site, increased congestion and traffic movement, Armistead Earthmoving have been able to maintain a safe and efficient site.
\n“Officers are satisfied that the rates provided for the extension period are reasonable and represent value for money.”
\nThe 12-month transfer station contract extension to Jun 30, 2022, will cost about $283,000 plus GST and the landfill contract extension for the same period will cost about $420,000.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
