Merry Christmas, everyone!<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Tweed Heads competition is now closed<\/h2>\n<p>As you are aware, My Big Catch in conjunction with Berger Houseboats in Tweed Heads has been running a competition with a fantastic prize on a houseboat on the Tweed River. The competition closed yesterday. The winner of this fantastic prize will be notified this week and published in next week\u2019s paper.<\/p>\n<h2>Fishing guide<\/h2>\n<p>It\u2019s that time of the year when you can pick up your new Recreational Fishing Guide. Most good tackle stores will now have this available; if not, just ask them to put one away for you.<\/p>\n<p>Anglers are being encouraged to get hold of the new Recreational Fishing Guide for 2018, which is now available free from hundreds of outlets including bait and tackle shops.<\/p>\n<p>Recreational anglers can also update or download the free \u2018Vic Fishing\u2019 app for smartphones.<\/p>\n<p>Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) chief executive officer Travis Dowling said the state government was investing a record $46 million into Target One Million to get more people fishing, more often, so it was important that everyone knew the rules and did their bit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe updated guide and app includes rule changes for trout, stingrays, skates, banjo sharks and rock lobster that started in 2017,\u201d Mr Dowling said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery year, we update the printed 64-page guide, which is funded by recreational fishing licence fees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe smartphone app is updated more regularly as rule changes occur through the course of a year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe guide and app are pivotal in helping recreational anglers understand bag limits, minimum sizes, closed seasons and equipment rules, which all contribute to sustainable fisheries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Dowling said the new guide and app were supported by a suite of other educational tools including stick-on boat rulers and free plastic measures for abalone, rock lobster and spiny freshwater crayfish.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese too have been updated to reflect all the changed rules.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Guides are available free of charge from most good tackle shops, many Tourist Information Centres and offices of the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources.<\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, anglers can phone the Customer Service Centre on 136 186 and request guides, measures and rulers, all free of charge.<\/p>\n<p>The new 2018 guide can also be viewed on the VFA\u2019s website at vfa.vic.gov.au\/fishingguide<\/p>\n<h2>Photos<\/h2>\n<p>Keep those photos coming in of your big catch!
