{"id":55841,"date":"2021-07-31T04:00:49","date_gmt":"2021-07-30T18:00:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=55841"},"modified":"2021-07-28T14:25:08","modified_gmt":"2021-07-28T04:25:08","slug":"generosity-spills-over-at-mt-duneed-estate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/generosity-spills-over-at-mt-duneed-estate\/","title":{"rendered":"Generosity spills over at Mt Duneed Estate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">A GEELONG charity forced to cancel a major fundraising event at the last minute due to lockdown has been blown away by the incredible generosity of the venue which waived the entire $22,796 fee.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">SIDS charity River\u2019s Gift was left with no choice but to forgo its annual Ladies Day lunch which was scheduled to host more than 230 guests on July 16.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">River\u2019s Gift co-founder Alexandra Hamilton said the venue was set-up with all food, staff and refreshments ready to go and cancelling was a devastating blow after it had already been postponed in March.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_55844\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-55844\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-55844\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/07\/Screen-Shot-2021-07-27-at-1.43.36-pm-300x233.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"233\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/07\/Screen-Shot-2021-07-27-at-1.43.36-pm-300x233.png 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/07\/Screen-Shot-2021-07-27-at-1.43.36-pm-1024x794.png 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/07\/Screen-Shot-2021-07-27-at-1.43.36-pm-768x596.png 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/07\/Screen-Shot-2021-07-27-at-1.43.36-pm.png 1318w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-55844\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">This photo of Mt Duneed Estate was taken 15 minutes prior to the lockdown announcement with tables set and AV team, Total Events, on site and preparing for the 2021 Ladies Lunch, due to be held only 18 hours later.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p2\">But Mt Duneed Estate came to the rescue and offered to cover all of the costs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Ms Hamilton said she cried when the Waurn Ponds based winery\u2019s sales and marketing manager Christine Whelan called her and made the heartfelt pledge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cThe endless hours and energy that went into bringing this event together, only to have our feet swept from under us at the 11th hour, we were so disappointed,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cThen to have received this incredible news from Christine, I sat and cried at their sheer generosity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cOver the years, they\u2019ve been so supportive of our cause and have been instrumental in bringing River\u2019s Gift to the forefront of SIDS research, education and awareness in Australia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cThis act of kindness goes above and beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Ms Hamilton and Karl Waddell established River\u2019s Gift in 2012 following the tragic loss of their son River to SIDS 10 years ago and has since raised more than $1.5 million to fund world leading scientific research, safe sleep education and grief support.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Ms Whelan said the team at Mt Duneed Estate was proud to help such a worthy charity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cWe carefully choose the charities we want to support and select those that we connect with.
