<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"THE Torquay Cricket Club has announced the captain of its Women\u2019s First XI for the 2021\/22 season with the season just a couple months away.<\/p>\n
The announcement was made last weekend by the club that Sarah Boak, who has long been a stalwart of the club, would be leading the club\u2019s top women\u2019s side next season.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m super excited to be the captain for the First XI Women\u2019s team,\u201d Boak said of her appointment.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a huge honour for everything we have done over the last two years and for myself to be captain is amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n
On behalf of the committee, the club\u2019s president Rob Dunne was thrilled to give her the role.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are absolutely pumped,\u201d Dunne said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe couldn\u2019t have chosen a better candidate.\u201d<\/p>\n
Boak noted the long-time family connection with the club, which has allowed her to understand and express its values, adding to her leadership qualities of love and passion for the game.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe club means a lot to me, it has been a part of my family for as long as I can remember so it\u2019s a huge part of my life,\u201d Boak said.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo be asked to captain a women\u2019s team that is new to the sport, I can\u2019t speak highly enough of the honour to captain them.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dunne is aware of the family\u2019s ties to the Tigers, but says it only adds to the type of leader she is and why she is tailor-made to the role.<\/p>\n
\u201cSarah has a unique affinity with the club,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019s obviously grew up around the cricket with her father, Roger, being the president of the club.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut beyond her capacity to be able to lead with her acumen, which has developed over the time playing cricket, she understands the club and our values having also served as the women\u2019s coordinator in the past.\u201d<\/p>\n
The club was also ecstatic about the fact Boak has also served on the committee at the Barwon Women\u2019s Cricket Club.<\/p>\n
The Torquay Cricket Club is looking to consolidate and expand its senior and junior women\u2019s program as it enters its fourth year of junior and senior play.<\/p>\n
The Tigers have helped pave the way for continual growth for women\u2019s cricket throughout the region and Boak has been there since the start.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis year there are 40 different clubs in the Barwon region that are playing women\u2019s cricket and that is a testament to women\u2019s cricket,\u201d Dunne said.<\/p>\n
\u201cTwo years ago, there weren\u2019t even a dozen teams and now there is 40 clubs.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is good, it is about time. My wife plays, my daughter plays, it is about time they got that spotlight.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 2021\/22 season is set to get underway on October 17.<\/p>\n
