TALENTED young surfers from the Surf Coast and beyond are being offered an exciting coaching and education opportunity in term 2 this year.<\/p>\n
The Saltwater Institute in Torquay will bring together talented surfers and high performance intensive technique development and competition-focused training.<\/p>\n
The young surfers, from years 7 to 9, will spend afternoons, as a group, at Surf Coast Secondary College where they will pursue a rigorous curriculum with a focus on ocean, surf and coastal studies.<\/p>\n
Director of the initiative, Sam Magree has taught in a program for elite skiers and snowboarders at Mt Buller for a number of years.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile previously, similar programs have existed for tennis players, skiers and in Australia have been offered such an opportunity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs former WCT surfer, and one of our head coaches, Dan Ross said to me, he wishes something like this was available for him when he was starting out.\u201d<\/p>\n
