LOCKDOWN or not, door-to-door solar power sales have been banned across Victoria to protect residents from dodgy tactics.<\/p>\n
Door-knocking bans have been in place throughout COVID-19 restrictions and will continue to apply to solar programs after restrictions lift.<\/p>\n
Solar Homes Minister Lily D\u2019Ambrosio said the ban applied to all businesses participating in Solar Victoria programs but would not affect consumer access to solar systems.<\/p>\n
Solar Victoria engaged with peak bodies and retailers on the proposed ban and industry strongly supported the new regulation, with four-months\u2019 notice provided before it officially started this month.<\/p>\n
\u201cIndustry has worked with us on this ban and has already proven highly adaptable, continuing to grow without the need for this kind selling tactic,\u201d Ms D’Ambrosio said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is about protecting customers from high pressure sales tactics and dodgy behaviour.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf installers or retailers fail to meet expected standards, we will not hesitate to remove them from the program.\u201d<\/p>\n
The state government is encouraging local residents to stay informed about their consumer rights and to report dodgy behaviour or safety concerns.<\/p>\n
Government solar programs will only involve accredited, approved retailers and products in any installation, installers must undertake mandatory training and an independent inspector needs to sign off on system safety.<\/p>\n
