{"id":60283,"date":"2021-11-03T04:00:32","date_gmt":"2021-11-02T17:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=60283"},"modified":"2021-11-03T13:18:41","modified_gmt":"2021-11-03T02:18:41","slug":"mugs-create-a-stir-for-movember","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/mugs-create-a-stir-for-movember\/","title":{"rendered":"Mugs create a stir for Movember"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IT WAS a teacup belonging to a family member that gave ceramicist Elizabeth Bell and her husband Jordan a brilliant idea for a Movember fundraiser.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan&#8217;s grandmother owned an antique teacup designed with a built-in protector to stop the wax on a gentleman&#8217;s moustache from melting when they enjoyed a cup a tea.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They are a really old thing, I had never seen them before, it&#8217;s a beautiful old floral china teacup with a moustache protector on it,&#8221; Elizabeth explained.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_60285\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-60285\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-60285 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/DSC_0712-scaled-e1633688660361-1024x768-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1635899010\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-60285\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Mo Mugs cost $49, with 25 per cent of proceeds going to Movember.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s pre World War I, when men used to wax their moustaches to keep them in place and a hot cup of tea would melt the wax so this was to protect their drink and their moustache.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s this beautiful old thing and we thought &#8216;that&#8217;s so cool, we&#8217;ve got to think of a modern take on this&#8217;.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The idea for Mo Mugs followed and the Geelong West couple is donating 25 per cent of all proceeds from each $49 mug sold to the men&#8217;s health charity.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_60289\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-60289\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-60289 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/image-25-10-21-04-09-scaled-e1635899039213-600x380.jpeg?_t=1635899040\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-60289\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ceramicist Elizabeth Bell at her home studio.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Elizabeth and Jordan have tragically lost two male friends to suicide so Movember is a cause close to their hearts.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think Movember do amazing stuff and men&#8217;s health is such an important, huge thing \u2013 especially at the moment with everything we have all been going through.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I just really wanted to get behind it this year and obviously I can&#8217;t grow a mo,&#8221; she added, with a laugh.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-60287 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/s_DSC_0777-1024x681-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1635899053\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Elizabeth said the uptake of the mugs \u2013 which are made in her garden studio &#8211; had been huge with the first batch selling out within a week and more on the way.<\/p>\n<p>The former hairdresser took up pottery seven years ago after taking a lesson while on honeymoon in Japan.<\/p>\n<p>She fell in love with the proccess and is now an accomplished ceramicist who also teaches others the art of pottery.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I love making items that people will love and use for a long time.
