{"id":60561,"date":"2021-11-13T04:15:14","date_gmt":"2021-11-12T17:15:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=60561"},"modified":"2021-11-10T08:09:46","modified_gmt":"2021-11-09T21:09:46","slug":"friends-celebrate-childrens-book-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/living\/friends-celebrate-childrens-book-success\/","title":{"rendered":"Friends celebrate children&#8217;s book success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two talented Surf Coast children&#8217;s book creators have been recognised with national book of the year awards.<\/p>\n<p>Author Kaye Baillie and illustrator Ren\u00e9e Treml each won a Speech Pathology Australia Book of the Year award in the &#8216;Best Book for Language and Literacy Development&#8217; category for their respective age groups.<\/p>\n<p>Kaye and Ren\u00e9e are friends and, despite knowing each was nominated for the award, they were unaware they had both won until the awards were announced on October 29.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Speech Pathology Australia Book of the Year Awards raise awareness of the role speech pathologists play in assisting people of all ages to develop their language and literacy skills,&#8221; they said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are passionate about literacy and are honoured to be recognised by Speech Pathology Australia.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>Boo Loves Books<\/em>, written by Kaye and illustrated by Tracie Grimwood, won the Three to Five Years Old age group.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-60584\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/Speech-Path-official-image-for-Boo-Loves-Books-300x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/Speech-Path-official-image-for-Boo-Loves-Books-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/Speech-Path-official-image-for-Boo-Loves-Books-1024x1024.png 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/Speech-Path-official-image-for-Boo-Loves-Books-768x768.png 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/Speech-Path-official-image-for-Boo-Loves-Books.png 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It tells the story of a little girl who is a reluctant reader and fears making mistakes, with beautiful illustrations providing curious young eyes with lots to explore.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My inspiration for the story came from an article about school children reading to homeless cats at an animal shelter,&#8221; Kaye said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I wanted to write a story that would encourage all children to believe in themselves and to discover their own pathway to reading.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>Look, Baby!,<\/em> written by Janeen Brian and illustrated by Ren\u00e9e, was named the Book of the Year for Birth to Three Years Old.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-60583\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/01.-Book-of-the-Year-2021-Birth-to-3-Years_FB-and-Instagram-300x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/01.-Book-of-the-Year-2021-Birth-to-3-Years_FB-and-Instagram-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/01.-Book-of-the-Year-2021-Birth-to-3-Years_FB-and-Instagram-1024x1024.png 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/01.-Book-of-the-Year-2021-Birth-to-3-Years_FB-and-Instagram-768x768.png 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/01.-Book-of-the-Year-2021-Birth-to-3-Years_FB-and-Instagram.png 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ren\u00e9e designed cut-out pages which would complement Janeen&#8217;s lyrical text and encourage curiosity and engagement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The story features families of all types and helps parents and carers show their child how to look around at all the different and exciting things there are to see,&#8221; Ren\u00e9e explained.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Plus, a few of the pages were inspired by our local Surf Coast landscape.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two talented Surf Coast children&#8217;s book creators have been recognised with national book of the year awards.
