{"id":60601,"date":"2021-11-14T04:00:36","date_gmt":"2021-11-13T17:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=60601"},"modified":"2021-11-10T10:55:54","modified_gmt":"2021-11-09T23:55:54","slug":"feed-me-seeking-donations-to-combat-food-shortage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/feed-me-seeking-donations-to-combat-food-shortage\/","title":{"rendered":"Feed Me seeking donations to combat food shortage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Feed Me bases across the Bellarine, Geelong and the Surf Coast are suffering from a food shortage and are appealing to the wider community to donate.<\/p>\n<p>Feed Me Bellarine, Geelong and Surf Coast are undergoing a \u201crough patch\u201d in supply and have made the call out to residents for extra donations.<\/p>\n<p>A list of specific food items has also been disseminated via Feed Me\u2019s social media outlets with items such as rice, baked beans, quick meal sachets, tinned\/canned foods, cereals, coffee, and snack bars on the list to name a few.<\/p>\n<p>Co-founder of Feed Me Bellarine Anthony Woodbury noted the food shortage is due to numerous factors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor us it was a mixture of things,\u201d Mr Woodbury said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur management team was not able to get on top of acquiring the donations due to our latest lockdown, but it has been a build-up since COVID-19 started 18 months ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLarge companies aren\u2019t donating as much; people are not spending as much with regards to importing and exporting and it has completely changed the way we usually do things.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 503px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/IMG_1328_98753.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"503\" height=\"336\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Meals being prepared for distribution at Feed Me Bellarine&#8217;s Ocean Grove site.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Mr Woodbury used the analogy of these factors having a \u201csnowball effect\u201d all the way through the clientele to not only Feed Me\u2019s operations, but also other food charities.<\/p>\n<p>Feed Me Bellarine has reached out to the community for support on several occasions, but when the group has had to lean on crowdfunding it is a rare occasion.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Woodbury believes that with restrictions loosening, the charity\u2019s usual stream of donations should resume in time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt doesn\u2019t happen very often, and we have been pretty good because we have a lot of people that help,\u201d Mr Woodbury said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I think our donations stream should pick up soon. People are still wary of what they spend their money on, but it will pick up.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 496px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/IMG_1334_54014.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"496\" height=\"331\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Meals being loaded into Feed Me Bellarine&#8217;s van for distribution.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Since Feed Me Bellarine put out the call, it has seen an increase in donations to Ocean Grove in particular, but it is hopeful more pantry items will be sent to its bases of operations.<\/p>\n<p>The pandemic has exacerbated the network\u2019s workload given a year ago, Feed Me Bellarine, Geelong and Surf Coast were sending food to 700 families every week.<br \/>\nThat number has more than doubled to 1,300 families per week.<\/p>\n<p>There are two options available in donating food to the Feed Me Network.<\/p>\n<p>Option 1 is arriving to a facility and dropping off a donation in-person.<\/p>\n<p>Option 2 is by placing a delivery order to one of the three Feed Me locations.<\/p>\n<p>Feed Me asks to ensure your order is booked to arrive at one of the three sites from Monday to Friday between 9am to 4pm.<\/p>\n<p>Feed Me Bellarine- 24 Sinclair St, Ocean Grove<br \/>\nFeed Me Surf Coast \u2013 Warehouse 9, 7-9 Cylinders Drive, Torquay<br \/>\nFeed Me Geelong \u2013 24 Lambert Ave, Newtown<\/p>\n<p>Orders for the food and groceries you wish to donate can be delivered via Coles, Woolworths, or any grocery service of your choice.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/FeedMeShortage_30422.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"353\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The list of items being asked for by Feed Me Bellarine.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Feed Me bases across the Bellarine, Geelong and the Surf Coast are suffering from a food shortage and are appealing to the wider community to donate.
