{"id":60656,"date":"2021-11-17T04:15:22","date_gmt":"2021-11-16T17:15:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=60656"},"modified":"2021-11-10T13:13:38","modified_gmt":"2021-11-10T02:13:38","slug":"gorcapa-wye-river-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/gorcapa-wye-river-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"GORCAPA completes Wye River projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority (GORCAPA) has recently finished two state government-supported projects in Wye River.<\/p>\n<p>A new beach access ramp has been installed at the Wye River Surf Life Saving Club, replacing the existing ramp that was damaged by recent erosion.<\/p>\n<p>The ramp has a removable design and allows for easy removal and installation if relocation is needed.<\/p>\n<p>The material on the ramp allows sand and water to flow through, reducing the impact on natural coastal processes.<\/p>\n<p>GORCAPA has thanked the Wye River SLSC and the local community for their ongoing support and engagement on this project.<\/p>\n<p>The Wye River Beachfront Campground, which GORCAPA manages, also reopened last week ahead of an expected busy summer season.<\/p>\n<p>Upgrades to the campground with 60 powered sites and four unpowered sites located between the Great Ocean Road and the coastline include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Road resurfacing with a new asphalt seal<\/li>\n<li>Drainage repairs to ensure the campsites stay dry, and<\/li>\n<li>Sealing the amenities block landing and office entry, removing slip hazards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The campground also has new branding, developed in association with GORCAPA for the eight caravan parks and camping grounds it manages along the Great Ocean Road.<\/p>\n<p>The limpet shell icon in the caravan park\u2019s logo acknowledges and represents Aboriginal living culture, providing references to past, present and future.<\/p>\n<p>These shells can be found along the Great Ocean Road coastline and provide valuable information about Aboriginal use of the coast over thousands of years.<\/p>\n<p>The multiple elements of the icon form a single shape, representing the caravan parks as interconnected. The lines resemble the texture of cliff faces along the coastline.<\/p>\n<p>As well as Wye River, GORCAPA manages caravan parks in Torquay, Anglesea, Lorne, Apollo Bay, Kennett River, Skenes Creek and Marengo.<\/p>\n<p>Land management of coastal reserves is being progressively transferred to GORCAPA from the previous committees of management, including the Great Ocean Road Coast Committee, over several years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority (GORCAPA) has recently finished two state government-supported projects in Wye River.
